My Car Shakes When I Brake Going Downhill

2010 toyota tundra 4x4, normally brakes seem to work fine, no shaking when braking, but when im going downhill for a distance and brake to slow the truck down (downhill on mountainside), i feel a good shake in the steering wheel. When you hit the brakes when traveling downhill, the brake rotors heat up as normal.

I have a 2014 dodge challenger.

My car shakes when i brake going downhill. It's called brake fade, and can be caused by a couple of things, including the ones i mentioned above. When a toyota sienna shakes when braking then main this might happen due to brake pad related problems. This heat can cause the metal to expand, resulting in the warpage shaking through the car as your speed reduces.

The repeated application of the brake pad onto the rotor will wear away the rotor material in that contact area. Perhaps your vehicle shakes when it’s idle. In a vehicle with disc brakes, the most likely cause of shaking is a warped or otherwise damaged rotor.

Applying the brakes going down hill makes the rotors get warmer than they usually do. A bent or otherwise damaged axle shaft can have the same effect. The second “and more likely scenario” warped brake rotors.

It does not happen all the time, but sometimes i. Why a car shakes when braking. The brake rotors eventually cool down and then heat up again the next time you press on the brakes.

This refers to the uneven wear of brake discs and is the result of rotor run out. My yukon shakes when i brake going downhill. When this happens, an enormous amount of heat is generated due to the friction between the brake pads and rotors.

So, this started yesterday and i need a little input. This will usually happen when the rotors are out of. If the front tires are slightly out of round, when you brake, the vehicle will dive forward putting more weight on the front tires causing the vehicle to shake.

Have the car inspected and replace any worn or damaged suspension or steering components. The diagnosis as i said is simple: If your car shakes when idle.

Spend some time absorbing this: I press the brake lightly to keep the car at about 65 and it shakes a lot. When i am going 55mph+ or going downhill the car vibrates when i brake, the steering wheel shakes pretty violently.

I bought it with 45,000 miles on it and i've had this issue since i got it, put 10k miles on it with no change. This is the first thing you should investigate if you experience shaking while braking. I drive back and forth from bakersfield to l.a.

And the firmer i press the pedal, the stronger the shudder it seems. Warping can be a consequence of normal wear. But it is not always the case.

It’s noticeable by other passengers too. Two things can cause shaking while braking. It can be felt as a general loss of braking grip (soft pedal), or shaking if the the pads/rotors are only partially gripping.

Heat causes metal to expand and when this happens it makes the warpage bad enough that you can feel the shaking through the car when braking. Shaking increased with brake pressure. If the rotors were warped, there would be a vibration any time you brake, not just when braking downhill.

The main reason toyota sienna shakes when braking. A thorough understanding of your car would really help. But if the downhill is steep enough, it is pretty reliably reproduced.

Mainly came up through the steering wheel but there was some vibration in other areas of the truck. Well, everytime i come back from l.a to bakersfield i hit a spot that is downhill. If it is the rear drums causing the rumble, it will happen when the emergency brake is used.

Go downhill do some repeated stopping at high speed with the car ideally loaded with cargo, and when you start noticing the rumble, do the emergency brake only stop. Sometimes things that you think will be really complicated end up being easy to fix with a gm. One possible cause of shaking when you apply the brakes, especially at high speeds on the highway or when going downhill, is your tires.

Brake shudder arises as a result of issues with the brake discs. The gm mechanic i'm going to connect you with knows all the tricks and shortcuts. There are many factors you may have to consider when your car shakes when braking at high speeds, not rotors.

Brake shudder is the vibration that you feel through the steering wheel when you hit the brakes. Not all downhill brakes induce this though. Your wheels may be out.

The most common reasons why my s teering wheel shakes when braking downhill: However, in some instances a worn or damaged component, such as a loose control arm or damaged knuckle, may cause a vibration when braking. This occures when you “ride the brakes too long when coasting downhill and have your foot on the brake pedal to keep the car from speeding up, or in most cases prior to stopping for a redlight or stop sign and have kept your foot on the brake pedal so long that it overheats the.

Lots of really good info there, including some from one of the best car engineers of all time. Hi, i have a 2007 gmc sierra 1/2 ton regular cab. So happens is that when you apply the brake, the brake pad also presses the rotors to help slow down the car speed or to stop that vehicle.

My car is an 08' camry le v6. It's not the road, i've driven over ten cars back and forth on this place and it's only my challenger. The shudder is pretty strong (the whole van shakes pretty strongly).

Since it had 10000 miles on it, now 32000, the front end shakes when i have to brake, going downhill. The vibration is generally caused by the brake rotors being warped. Namely, when the brake discs have been affected by disc thickness variation (dtv).

A busted rotor may be the culprit. This can happen over time with the rotors due to normal wear and tear. Over time this can cause them to warp slightly causing very small low spots on the surface of the brake rotor.
